Helpful hints
This page is here to help you get the most out of MakingContact.org. If you have a specific question that is not covered here then please contact us at info [AT] makingcontact [DOT] org
To save room on the page we use the term disabled to indicate those with disabilities, special need or a medical condition.
Layout of screen
When listing results of a search, say all members associated with a particular condition, the system tries to put as much relevant information as possible into a single row for each member, thus saving you the time of clicking in and out of each members specific details. The layout of each row is shown below with explanations of what each section refers to:
- This area shows the username of the MakingContact.org member. This is the person you will contact and clicking their username will show you more details about them. When using this site you will find that all people you encounter will have their real names hidden. This is for security reasons. It also shows the type of family - one or two parent - if given. See the symbol key below for more details. The envelope icon can be clicked if you want to contact this member.
- This area shows information about the disabled person including the month and year of their birth and their gender.
- This area contains a description of the relationship between the member and the disabled person (child), how many brothers/sisters they have and how many of those are disabled.
- This will contain a brief summary of the person's story, if one was given.
Apart from the username, all of the above information is optional so in some cases you may see this symbol
to indicate that the information has not been supplied. To save on space and to make the site as accessible as possible to all languages we use symbols in some of the above places.
